Some words simply don’t get used as much as they should. While this is, of course, a subjective opinion, I strongly believe that adding the following words to your daily vocabulary will make you a more eloquent and engaging speaker.

1. Pragmatic

Prag·mat·ic (adj.)

Definition: Being practical and focused on what is achievable rather than on theory or ideals

Example: “My sister is very pragmatic and always has a plan.” [or] “He’s always been a very pragmatic person, making decisions based on what will work best.”

2. Colloquially

Col·lo·qui·al·ly (adv.)

Definition: Informally, or in a casual way; specifically used to mean “in a casual conversation”

Example: “It’s colloquially acceptable to end a sentence with a preposition.” [or] You might say “I’m hitting the store real quick” instead of “I am going to the grocery store.”

3. Ostentatious

Os·ten·ta·tious (adj.)
